What is Sport Premium?

In July 2017 the Government announced that the Sports premium amount received by schools would be doubled. The aim of the funding is to help schools to use physical education, sport and physical activity as a tool to improve educational attainment, emotional and physical health and well-being.

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

You can find further information on the Department for Education website here.

The Government is providing funding of approximately £150 million per annum to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding.

This funding is being jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

As we do not know how long this funding will last for, which have ensured that alongside increased sporting opportunities for the children, we have built in capacity to sustain provision in the eventuality of funding becoming no longer available, through ongoing training of our staff and resourcing of the curriculum.
